Her Story
Drawing inspiration from the wisdom of Black women who came before her, LaToya Johnson, LMSW is driven to champion the causes of gender, racial, and economic justice. As a seasoned labor and community organizer, as well as a clinical and forensic social worker, Toya firmly believes that the cornerstone of a thriving community is the holistic well-being of its residents. She is passionate about creating tailor-made, highly effective programs that empower community members to safeguard and nourish their mental health in the face of persistent social and economic challenges. With over 13 years of dedicated service in the nonprofit and public sectors, Toya brings expertise in management, fundraising, community and labor organizing, program development, political education, local and state policy development, and advocacy.

Currently, Toya wears the hat of Executive Director of the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice, spearheading the fight for racial and economic equity for Black and immigrant workers not just in the state of Louisiana but across the South. She is a proud NOLA native and homeowner. In her spare time, you'll find her attending New Orleans’ many festivals, training for marathons and triathlons, planning her next travel adventure domestically and internationally, searching for her next DIY project, and spending leisurely weekends thrift store shopping.
